Colorants for Automotive Coatings

Penn Color has been a global development partner with automotive OEM, refinish and fleet paint manufacturers for over 40 years. Our pigment dispersions are custom designed for each client and span a wide range of technologies – from traditional solvent born colorants in CAB, acrylic and nitrocellulose resin systems to our latest high chroma aqueous line. We also work with our partners to address the global movement for reduced VOC’s, offering a number of customized lines to support this evolution. Each line of products can be provided in solid chip form, highly-loaded paste form or even partially reduced in our customer’s specified let down system.

The world is becoming more environmentally friendly and Penn Color is leading the way with our latest innovation in water based dispersions for the automotive industry. This technology utilizes unique milling and stabilization techniques and provides our customers with the highest color strength, chroma and transparency. This system is highly compatible with a number of polymers and can be further customized to achieve unique shades with both organic and inorganic pigment chemistries. This technology allows our refinish customers to achieve the same level of transparency and chroma as many of the traditional solvent systems.

We work closely with our partners on customized product development and quality control test procedures to ensure the highest level of consistency from batch to batch. Through the utilization of our automated paint booth, we provide panels sprayed out using our customers’ clear vehicle to demonstrate how our dispersions will function and appear in their finished paint.

In addition to the many options available utilizing our technology, Penn Color also provides dispersions in customer specified formulations and has the capacity and capabilities to produce our customers’ finished paint system.
