At Penn Color, we do not define quality – our customers do.

As the majority of our products are designed for our customers’ specific end use, standards and specifications are developed in conjunction with our customers, with a focus on functionality and key performance characteristics.

Determining Customer Requirements

  • As an ISO 9001 registered company since 1997, Penn Color recognizes that the first step in satisfying customer requirements is to clearly understand them.
  • We have several mechanisms for determining customer requirements and communicating them throughout the organization.

Vendor Evaluation, Bar Coding of Raw Materials, Raw Material Approval (IQC)

  • Vendors sign a document agreeing to our standing requirements.
  • Vendors are continually monitored according to these requirements.
  • Corrective action is required when infractions occur.
  • All incoming raw materials receive a bar code label for internal tracking and control.
  • All raw materials are approved for use by Quality Control prior to use, and many are actually tested in their exact intended application.
  • We demand complete traceability of all raw materials through the batch process.

Calibration, Preventative Maintenance, Process Control, DCR System

  • All process control and product testing equipment is calibrated on a regular basis by a third party.
  • A preventive maintenance schedule is in place for every critical piece of equipment.
  • An extensive process control program is in place to ensure that you get what you want when you want it.
  • Every department can view the customer’s requirements prior to performing work for them.

Internal Quality Audits, Corrective Action Cycle

  • In addition to our regular third party ISO 9001 audits, internal quality audits are performed on an on-going basis throughout all of our facilities.
  • A corrective action cycle is employed at any point in our operation where non-conformance or inefficiency is detected.

In-Process QC, Final QC, Uniformity

  • Every batch produced at Penn Color is closely monitored throughout the entire manufacturing process. Samples are taken at key points in the process and further processing cannot continue without Quality Control approval.
  • No product leaves a Penn Color facility without first undergoing a battery of tests to determine that the material meets or exceeds the specifications established for that product.
  • Upon completion of the manufacturing process, each batch is post-blended to ensure uniformity throughout, and the data reported on our certificates of analysis is generated from the post-blended batch.

Lot Control, Shipping

  • Every batch produced by Penn Color is given a unique lot number for both backward traceability to raw material and suppliers, and forward traceability into the marketplace.
  • Prior to leaving our docks, each shipment is double-checked for conformance to the customer’s standing and special requirements.

Other Notable Qualifications

  • Penn Color has been a reliable tier 2 supplier to the automotive industry since our inception in 1964. We have been ISO 9001 certified since 1997 and we have the capability to provide customer oriented TS16949 documentation (PSW, PPAP, etc.) upon request.
  • Penn Color’s Milton, WI and Venray, NL facilities are both GMP and HACCP compliant, positioning us a reliable and trustworthy source for the direct and indirect food packaging market.
