Single Pigment Dispersions

Single pigment dispersions, also called mono-pigments or SPDs, are very highly-loaded masterbatches in solid or liquid form, utilizing just one individual pigment. SPDs are the preferred method of coloring in many applications and industries such as PVC films, cast acrylic sheet, and pre-colored compounds.

Penn Color has been producing single pigment dispersions since our inception in 1964, including an extensive PVC SPD palette. We utilize carrier resins designed to be fully compatible with our customers’ base resin, as opposed to semi-compatible wax or resin.

Current markets where we’re providing single pigment dispersions include:

• PVC – for which we offer an extensive palette of PVC SPDs designed to meet the needs and requirements of your specific market and application. The product line is formulated to offer both phthalate-compliant and phthalate containing options so that all of your requirements can be met.
• Cast acrylic sheet – in which we’ve developed our Penn Cast® line of SPDs, complete with color matching hardware and software
• Compounders making precolored resins – for whom we’re currently producing single pigment dispersions for PVC, polyolefin, acrylic, TPO, and engineering resin compounders

As with our custom color masterbatches, our SPD’s are produced on high sheer compounding lines that focus less on output and more on maximizing the pigment loadings and dispersion quality, resulting in the highest quality and most cost-effective single pigment dispersions available.
