Multilayer HDPE Home Care Packaging
Hi there! I’m Jenna Mathis, and I work in Sales at Penn Color. In my experience, package design can sometimes become overly complex, leading to increased costs. One of our customers approached us looking for ways to cut costs, and we realized the solution required a complete redesign of their color package.
The original design was quite intricate, featuring a multi-layer bottle with multiple masterbatches, including two opacifying masterbatches and a masterbatch with a pearl effect. After discussing their needs, we set an ambitious goal: to simplify this design by replacing these three components with a single masterbatch solution.
We proposed 12 design options, and the customer selected a solution that perfectly met their requirements. The final design featured a single masterbatch in the outer layer, no pearl and no additional TiO2 in the middle layer. This not only delivered material cost savings but also reduced manufacturing complexity, resulting in lower overall costs.
The product is now a commercial success with four different converters, and our partnership with the customer continues to flourish.
