In-Molded Premium Matte and Frost Effect Offers Design Freedom Without The Need to Change Molds

In highly competitive categories like personal care, maintaining an edge on shelf appeal demands constant innovation, especially when it comes to refreshing package aesthetics. A global personal care brand recently approached us looking for new ways to deliver a frosted or matte finish on their PET bottles to elevate their visual identity.

Traditionally, this effect requires a change from polished to textured molds-an effective but expensive route that also brings operational challenges like increased downtime due to mold changeovers. After discussing these constraints, we introduced an alternative: integrating our frost/matte additive directly into their PET resin to achieve a premium, shine-free look-without changing the mold.

After several formulation trials, we helped the brand unlock the full potential of this in-mold masterbatch solution. By adjusting the additive dosage, they created an entire family of finishes-from a subtle frosted effect at lower loadings to a deep matte look at higher levels. Most importantly, they could now run multiple finishes using the same mold, offering greater flexibility for short runs, seasonal launches, and rapid design changes-all while maximizing line efficiency.

What started as a conversation about "finding a better way" led to the successful launch of a refreshed packaging line-delivering a bold new look with no capital investment, improved manufacturing agility, and the lowest total cost to produce.
