Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)

At the end of 2006, the regulation for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) was published as EC-Regulation 1907/2006. REACH will enter into force on June 1st, 2007. The first crucial phase under REACH will be the pre-registration of all substances. This six month pre-registration period will start on June 1, 2008, and will be a condition that will enable companies to use the transition periods for marketing. Depending on product volumes, these transition periods will last from 3 to 11 years.

At this time Penn Color is in the process of evaluating our preparations and contacting our suppliers with regards to actions they are implementing to comply with REACH. Our intent is for our suppliers to pre-register those substances and preparations that may be used in our products that are exported in to the European Community.

You may already know that registration must contain information on exposures and risks in downstream uses of substances and preparations. As such we may require information from our customers to ensure that our substances and preparations used in our products are properly registered. It is quite evident that a mutual exchange of information will be necessary. We will, therefore, be contacting our customers in the near future.

Please know that we do understand our customers’ concerns with regards to the registration process and we assure you that we will work closely with our customers in complying with this directive.
