Cellulose Acetate Butyrate Based Dispersion

Cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) resins have grown to a position of prominence in the coatings industry since their introduction by Eastman Chemicals in the 1930's. The versatile chemistry of these cellulose derivatives permits variations in molecular weight and butyryl/hydroxyl functionalities resulting in a broad range of solubility, compatibility, and performance.

Through proper selection, CAB resins can be used not only as thermoplastic film formers but also as crosslinkable coatings modifiers. The versatility has led to its use in a wide range of applications including: wire coatings, fabric and wood finishes, inks, hot melt adhesives, lacquers, thermoset enamels, metal primers, and automotive coatings.

Coincident with the broad utility of CAB is the need for high quality pigment dispersions. Such products facilitate the simple preparation of any system requiring a colorant.
