Penn Color Inc. is uniquely
positioned in the varied markets that support
the Wood Finish industry. The diversity of the
marketplace is ideally matched to the diverse
manufacturing capabilities of Penn Color. Recent
expansions and the construction of a state of
the art production facility that is able to
utilize a wide variety of solvents and other
non-aqueous systems, has positioned Penn Color
to provide Solvent
Borne Acrylic and Nitrocellulose
systems in full compliance well into the future.
This, coupled with our technically advanced
Water Borne
systems and UV Curable
Color Concentrates, allows for complete and
total supply of the market.
Global in scope, the Wood Finish and Protective
Coatings market will encompass all of the following
industries:
- Furniture Finishes
Primarily high end, first quality, lacquer
finishes that are pigmented and protected
with Nitrocellulose based systems. Penn Color's
Nitrocellulose
Chip and Paste dispersions provide high gloss,
transparent coatings that are capable of extreme
dilutions to provide stain like systems with
the performance characteristics of resin-encapsulated
pigments. Recent advances in UV
Curable Technologies have also allowed
for the disposition of high gloss UV systems
that both penetrate wood fiber as a UV Curable
Stain, and also are able to form durable films
over the wood surface providing lacquer type
appearances with Acrylate durabilities.
- Cabinets and Flooring
Similar in scope and applications to
furniture finishes, Cabinets and Flooring
utilize catalyzed systems to impart additional
durability and life to the finish due to the
use level that it is subjected to. Penn Color
provides Nitrocellulose
dispersion Products, UV
Curable Systems and Vinyl
Based Colorants for these markets.
- Furniture Laminates
Lower end products that utilize a printed
top layer that is laminated to inexpensive
underlayment to simulate high quality wood
grain finishes. Our ability and expertise
in the printing ink market, along with the
color experience generated from over 40 years
in the furniture market, allows Penn Color
to provide colorants and vehicle systems that
provide the needed adhesion and release properties
that are uniquely suited to this market.
With the breadth of this market,
Penn Color's Research & Development Team
faces great challenges. Each application and
every modification to each application requires
subtle changes to formulary or processing parameters
to insure total compliance to stringent Quality
Control Specifications. Our ability to measure
and quantify not only Color Tolerances but also
Performance Characteristics as they apply to
the various markets, allows Penn Color to design
systems that are unique to each application.
